New Delhi, Apr 25 (V7N)- The Indian Army has called for a 'retaliatory response' following an alleged firing incident by Pakistani troops along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday night.
According to NDTV, citing military sources, Pakistani forces opened fire on several Indian check posts, prompting Indian forces to respond with what they termed a "befitting reply." While the exchange of fire heightened tensions, no casualties have been reported so far.
Indian news agency PTI, quoting defense officials, said that small arms fire was exchanged at multiple locations on the LoC. The Indian side reportedly responded swiftly and effectively to the provocation.
This incident comes amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan following a terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which left 26 people dead. The Indian government has blamed elements backed by Pakistan for the deadly assault and has vowed to take decisive actions.
While Islamabad has yet to officially respond to the LoC incident, the cross-border hostilities add to a growing diplomatic standoff. Both nations have already announced countermeasures against each other in the wake of the Pahalgam attack.
In response to the rising conflict, the United Nations has urged both countries to exercise “maximum restraint” and avoid actions that could further destabilize the already fragile situation in the region.
The LoC has long been a flashpoint between the two nuclear-armed neighbors, and any military engagement raises serious concerns about broader regional security.
