Manila, Nov 06 (V7N)- The death toll from powerful Typhoon Kalmegi in the Philippines has climbed to at least 114, while 127 others remain missing, according to a report by the BBC published on Thursday (November 6).

The typhoon struck the central region of the country on Tuesday (November 4), bringing winds of up to 150 kilometers per hour and triggering heavy rainfall and widespread flooding.

The province of Cebu was the hardest hit, with 71 fatalities, most of whom drowned in the flash floods. Local authorities confirmed that 65 people are still missing in Cebu alone, while another 62 remain unaccounted for in the neighboring Negros Occidental province.

After devastating the Philippines, Typhoon Kalmegi continues to move northwest and is expected to intensify further as it heads toward Vietnam and southern China, where authorities have already begun taking precautionary measures.
