Abu Dhabi, Nov 16 (V7N) — Astronomers in the United Arab Emirates have forecast that Eid al-Fitr in 2026 is likely to fall on Friday, March 20, according to Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Emirates Astronomical Society.

Al Jarwan stated that the Ramadan moon for 1447 AH may be sighted on February 17 (Tuesday). If this calculation holds, fasting in the UAE is expected to begin on February 19 (Thursday) and continue for 30 days.

Based on this projection, the first day of Shawwal — Eid al-Fitr — would be on Friday, March 20. However, the final confirmation will be made by the UAE Moon-Sighting Committee closer to the date.

According to preliminary astronomical estimates, if Ramadan lasts 30 days, UAE residents may enjoy a four-day holiday from March 19 (Thursday) to March 22 (Sunday). Offices would resume on March 23 (Monday).
