US Congressman Henry Cuellar and his wife have been accused of accepting bribes totaling $600,000, according to reports from British media outlet BBC on Saturday (May 4). The allegations suggest that the couple received money from an Azerbaijani government-owned oil company and a Mexican bank.

The Texas Democrat, however, vehemently denied the accusations in a statement, asserting their innocence. Following their appearance in court in Houston, the couple was granted bail. Nonetheless, if convicted, they could face decades in prison.

In response to the allegations, Henry Cuellar, 68, firmly stated, "I want to state categorically that both my wife and I are innocent of these charges."
