Dhaka, Nov 18 (V7N) – Rail and road connectivity in Dhaka returned to normal on Monday afternoon after a four-hour disruption caused by students from Govt Titumir College, who had blocked railway tracks in Mohakhali. The students ended their protest following assurances from the concerned authorities.

Joynal Abedin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Dhaka railway police station, confirmed that rail communication resumed around 4:20 pm, according to UNB. Similarly, Banani police station OC Russell Sarwar stated that both rail and road blockades were lifted after negotiations with the authorities.

The protest was sparked earlier in the day when students demanded the upgrade of Govt Titumir College to university status. During the blockade, incidents of violence were reported, with several individuals, including children, injured in an attack on a train.

OC Joynal explained that four Dhaka-bound trains, along with another train scheduled to depart from the city, were stranded due to the blockade. He added that the Kamalapur-bound Parabat Express was attacked in Mohakhali around 11:30 am, resulting in injuries.

The students also targeted the Dhaka-bound Upakul Express from Noakhali, damaging several windows. However, authorities could not confirm the exact number of injuries.
