Dhaka, Nov 23 (V7N)- Foreign Affairs Advisor Towhid Hossain emphasized the complexity of the Rohingya crisis, stating that it will not be resolved quickly and that signing a repatriation agreement with Myanmar is currently not the right course of action.

He made these remarks during the National Dialogue on National Consensus on Bangladesh's Rohingya Policy, organized by the South Asian Institute of Policy and Governance (SIPG) at North South University (NSU) in Dhaka on Saturday.

Hossain highlighted the need for Myanmar to understand the risks of not reaching an agreement with Bangladesh, urging Bangladesh to amplify this message to the global community.

Addressing the shifting dynamics in Myanmar's Rakhine state, Hossain noted the growing influence of the Arakan Army. “We need to maintain informal contact with them, even if not formally,” he suggested, signaling the importance of strategic engagement.

He further emphasized the necessity of strengthening Bangladesh’s military capabilities, stating, “We do not want to fight with anyone. But we must increase our military strength so that no one dares to use us.”

The dialogue aimed to foster a unified national stance on Bangladesh's Rohingya policy, addressing one of the most pressing humanitarian and geopolitical challenges facing the nation.
