Dhaka, Jan 02 (V7N) — The Ministry of Public Administration has issued a clarification regarding the exclusion of 227 candidates from the 43rd Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) recruitment process, following widespread concerns. The ministry revealed that the exclusions were primarily based on adverse reports from the National Security Intelligence (NSI) and the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI). However, applications for reconsideration from the excluded candidates are now being accepted.
In a notification released on Thursday, the ministry stated that of the 2,163 candidates initially recommended for appointment, 267 were excluded. This group includes 40 candidates who were absent from the health examination and 227 who were deemed temporarily unsuitable due to intelligence reports.
The notification added that any of the 227 candidates who were excluded may apply for reconsideration, and this opportunity is open to all. The ministry emphasised its commitment to ensuring a transparent and trustworthy recruitment process.
On the same day, excluded candidates held a press conference in front of the Dhaka University Central Library, demanding their inclusion in the gazette by January 5 and confirmation of their appointments by January 15.
The Public Service Commission (PSC) initially recommended the appointment of 2,163 candidates from the 43rd BCS in January 2024. However, on October 15, a revised notification excluded 59 candidates and the 40 absent from health examinations. This decision was based on reports from the Special Branch (SB) of the police and district administrators.
To address public concerns and ensure transparency, the ministry conducted a second round of scrutiny involving the NSI and DGFI. This review flagged 227 candidates, citing adverse findings in intelligence reports.
A final notification issued on December 30 approved the appointments of 1,896 candidates, excluding the 267 flagged individuals. The ministry has now opened a window for reconsideration, offering excluded candidates a chance to contest the decision.
The ministry reaffirmed its intent to maintain fairness in the recruitment process, ensuring that all selected candidates meet the highest standards of integrity and capability.
