Dhaka, Feb 26 (V7N) – United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is set to visit Bangladesh from March 13 to 16, following an invitation from Principal Advisor to the Interim Government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus.

The Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the UN confirmed the visit in a press release on Wednesday (February 26), stating that the Office of the UN Secretary-General has officially approved the trip.

Invitation Extended by Bangladesh's Special Envoy

The invitation was personally delivered to Guterres by Dr. Khalilur Rahman, Special Envoy on Rohingya and Priority Issues, during a meeting in New York on February 7.

Agenda of the Visit

While specific details of Guterres' itinerary have yet to be disclosed, the visit is expected to focus on:

  • The Rohingya crisis and humanitarian assistance
  • Bangladesh’s role in UN peacekeeping operations
  • Climate change and sustainable development goals (SDGs)
  • Bilateral cooperation between Bangladesh and the UN
