Dhaka, Apr 29 (V7N)- More than 100 Bangladeshi expatriates returned home from Saudi Arabia after being reportedly scammed and deported over issues related to expired or disputed work permit visas.
The returnees landed in Dhaka just after midnight on Monday (April 28). Many of them claimed they had valid documents, but were detained and forcibly sent back by Saudi authorities.
They also alleged that they faced increased harassment following the March for Gaza event held on April 12, where an incident involving the image of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman reportedly stirred diplomatic tension. The workers believe this may have contributed to the crackdown.
Many returnees described the situation as a grave injustice, emphasizing the financial and emotional toll of the fraud and mistreatment they endured, despite being considered vital remittance contributors to Bangladesh's economy.
