Following a bilateral meeting between Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud announced Bangladesh and Thailand's joint commitment to addressing the Rohingya crisis.

Expressing solidarity, Mahmud stated that both nations are shouldering the responsibility of sheltering Rohingya refugees who fled persecution in Myanmar. He emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to resolve the crisis, acknowledging the burden faced by both countries due to the influx of Rohingya refugees.

Highlighting Bangladesh's significant role in providing refuge to 1.3 million Rohingya, Mahmud reiterated the cordiality of the bilateral meeting and the mutual desire to enhance bilateral ties. Additionally, Bangladesh offered a dedicated economic zone to Thai investors as a gesture of cooperation.

During the meeting, Bangladesh and Thailand signed five bilateral documents aimed at strengthening cooperation in various areas, including visa exemption, energy, tourism, customs matters, and the negotiation of a free trade agreement (FTA). These agreements reflect the commitment of both nations to deepen their partnership and explore avenues for mutual benefit.

The signing ceremony, attended by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, marks a significant step towards bolstering bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Thailand. PM's Speech Writer Nazrul Islam was also present at the Foreign Minister's briefing, underlining the importance of the agreements signed during the meeting.
