The head of Bangladesh's newly formed interim government, Dr Muhammad Yunus, and 13 other advisors paid tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War at the National Martyrs' Memorial in Savar, Dhaka, on Friday morning.
Initially, Dr Yunus laid a wreath at the memorial in honour of the fallen heroes at around 10am.

He then observed a minute of silence at the site. During this time, a military contingent presented a state salute, and a bugle played a solemn tune.

Afterwards, Dr Yunus, joined by other advisors, laid another wreath in his capacity as the head of the government.

After the tribute, the president signed the visitors' book at the memorial.

On Thursday night, Dr Yunus, along with other members of the interim government, was sworn in.

Upon assuming his duties, Dr Yunus vowed to present a new Bangladesh.

"With the dawn of a new day, everyone will enjoy democracy, justice, human rights, freedom of expression without fear and government support for a comfortable life. This is the goal of our government. Please help us achieve this goal."
