Dhaka, August 24 — DMP Commissioner Mohammad Mainul Hasan acknowledged the public's lack of trust in the police force due to the recent "extreme disorderly behavior" of some amateur police officers and members. He assured the public that swift departmental action would be taken against any accused policemen and officials found guilty of misconduct.

During a press briefing at the DMP Center in the capital, the Commissioner was questioned about the recent killings allegedly involving amateur policemen. He confirmed that legal proceedings are underway, with cases filed against several individuals. "Police work will be professional from now on," he stated, emphasizing that the force would operate impartially, regardless of the officers' district origins.

Commissioner Hasan also mentioned that many individuals involved in recent movements attempted to quell protests using licensed weapons, and efforts are underway to identify and locate these individuals. He noted that a case has been filed against certain instructors related to the movements.

The Commissioner revealed that during the recent anti-discrimination student movement, 22 out of 50 police stations in the capital were set on fire, resulting in numerous injuries and fatalities among the police. This incident has left the police force and even the army in a state of heightened fear and caution. "It will take some time for the police to fully recover," he added.

Addressing a specific inquiry about a murder case involving the cricketer Shakib Al Hasan, the DMP Commissioner stated that the nature of each person's involvement in a crime varies—some may instigate, others may cooperate or advise. He assured that action would be taken based on evidence found against any individual involved.
