Dec 22, (V7N) - Stellantis has confirmed it will reverse its decision to lay off 1,100 workers at its Jeep plant in Toledo, Ohio, after the departure of its former CEO Carlos Tavares. The company announced that no employees will be placed on indefinite layoff starting January 5, 2025, as initially planned. Workers are expected to return to their shifts as scheduled after the New Year.

Stellantis' decision to maintain the workforce at its Toledo South Assembly Plant comes amid the company's ongoing reassessment of its strategy in North America. The company had previously planned to reduce operations at the Toledo plant, moving from two shifts to one, which would have led to the job cuts. Additionally, 400 employees were slated to be transferred to third-party service providers as part of the restructuring.

The shift in strategy followed the exit of Carlos Tavares on December 1, 2024, after his tenure as CEO. The new interim CEO has worked to reassure the French and Italian governments, emphasizing a commitment to maintaining production and investments in those countries.Stellantis faced challenges with falling sales, particularly a 42% drop in North America during the third quarter. This drop, along with struggles at US dealerships to reduce inventory, led the company to offer promotional deals to boost sales. As of the end of 2023, Stellantis employed around 258,000 people globally across its 14 brands, which include Chrysler, Peugeot, and Fiat.
