Development Progress

In the initial phase, these zones will be equipped with essential utility connections—such as gas, electricity, and water—along with robust road infrastructure.

At a press conference held at the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) headquarters, BEZA Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun emphasized the importance of building investor confidence.

“If BEZA successfully implements the development plans for these five zones within the next two years, the experience gained will enable us to take on more ambitious initiatives in the future,” he said.

Challenges and Stakeholder Collaboration

Chowdhury highlighted BEZA's efforts to address challenges in establishing the zones by consulting a broad range of stakeholders, including business officials, domestic and foreign investors, developers, and government departments.

Expediting decision-making processes.

Encouraging investors to activate stalled projects or return unused land to BEZA for reallocation.

Identifying underutilized government land, such as that belonging to jute and sugar mills, for potential economic zone development.

Future Economic Zones in Assessment

BEZA is currently assessing the feasibility of five additional economic zones for phased development:

Sabrang Tourism Park

Chinese Economic Zone

Chandpur Economic Zone

Kurigram Economic Zone

Kushtia Economic Zone

In a significant move, the Korean Export Processing Zone (KEPZ) is being brought under BEZA’s jurisdiction, with final formalities underway.

Chowdhury reiterated BEZA's commitment to creating an investment-friendly environment and ensuring the efficient utilization of allocated land and resources.

With a strong emphasis on infrastructure development, stakeholder collaboration, and streamlined decision-making, BEZA is positioning itself as a catalyst for economic growth and industrial development in Bangladesh.
