Brig Gen Md Main Uddin, Director General (DG) of the Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD), stated on Friday that the building where the devastating fire on Bailey Road in Dhaka on Thursday night that left 46 dead and scores of others burned had no fire safety precautions.

He commented on Friday afternoon while chatting with reporters in front of the now-burned "Green Cozy Cottage Shopping Mall."

There was just one little stairway in the entire structure, according to the FSCD DG, and no fire safety.

He noted that the FSCD had previously sent the building owners three notifications as part of normal monitoring.

Additionally, according to DG Main Uddin, one of the rooms where individuals sought refuge during the fire was windowless.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina remarked on Friday that there was no fire escape in the multi-story structure while expressing her profound shock and grief over the deaths of numerous individuals in the tragic fire tragedy.

The seven-story commercial building's profile

The building's first level housed the Gadget & Gear stores, a mobile showroom, and the "Cha Chumuk" tea stall, which is where the fire is said to have started.

Popular eatery "Kacchi Bhai" and clothing store "Illiyeen" were located on the second and third floors, respectively.

The restaurants "Khanas," "Fuko," and "Pizza Inn" were located on the fourth and fifth levels, respectively.

The restaurants "Zasdi," "Street Oven," and "Ambrosia" were located on the sixth and seventh levels.

A video clip of the incident that was taken early on Friday morning reveals that the fire started in one of the ground-floor stores and quickly spread to other locations.
