Dhaka, Jan 13 (V7N) — The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to conduct a forensic examination of critical call records involving Sheikh Hasina and others, tied to the July-August genocide. This decision follows significant findings presented by the prosecution on Monday afternoon.
Prosecutors Tanvir Hasan Joha and BM Sultan Mahmud informed the tribunal that crucial information and evidence have been uncovered regarding the genocide and related disappearances. According to Joha, attempts were made to conceal evidence of the killings, but the obtained call records provide substantial leads.
Speaking to reporters, BM Sultan Mahmud noted that the tribunal's order for forensic analysis aims to confirm the authenticity of these call records, which were collected from online platforms and other sources. The records are expected to shed light on the events and communications surrounding the genocide.
The tribunal, led by Chairman Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder, emphasised the importance of this forensic analysis to ensure accurate and unbiased findings.
Prosecutors also raised concerns about non-cooperation in providing information to the tribunal, which they claim has hindered progress in the investigation.
The ICT's decision is seen as a critical step in advancing the investigation into the July-August genocide and ensuring accountability for the crimes committed. Further developments are expected as the forensic examination progresses.
