Pabna, Nov 25 (V7N) – The district administration has cancelled the certificates of six registered deed writers of the Pabna Sadar Sub-Registry Office and banned them from entering the office premises, following allegations of extortion, assault, death threats, and repeated attacks on officials and staff. The action was confirmed Monday by District Registrar Dipak Kumar Sarker.
A formal office order signed by the District Registrar on Sunday (Nov 23) stated that the listed deed writers had been found involved in serious misconduct. The accused are Ishaq Ul Alam, President of the Pabna Sadar Deed Writers’ Association; General Secretary Nurul Alam Shahin; and members Abdus Salam, Mostafizur Rahman Manik, Hasan Mahmud Pappu, and Golzar Hossain.
Registrar Dipak Kumar Sarker said an earlier complaint had been lodged at the police station by former Sub-Registrar Yusuf Ali, alleging death threats, abusive behavior, and intimidation by the accused. “The investigation confirmed these allegations,” he said. “Recently, the same individuals threatened to kill me if three cases filed against them were not withdrawn. They have repeatedly attacked the office, issued threats, created panic, harassed staff, and forcibly extorted money. Based on the confirmed allegations, their certificates were cancelled and entry to the office premises has been prohibited.”
He added that legal action would follow against anyone else found involved.
Local deed writers said Nurul Alam Shahin established dominance at the Sadar Sub-Registry Office during the Awami League’s tenure by identifying himself as a leader of the Sramik League. Under the protection of influential district leaders, they alleged, he created an “extortion empire,” which he later maintained by presenting himself as aligned with the BNP after August 5. With 400–500 deeds processed daily, they claimed he collected an additional Tk 3,000–5,000 per deed, amounting to Tk 10 –15 lakh in illegal daily collections distributed among associates.
Repeated attempts to contact Nurul Alam Shahin by phone were unsuccessful, as his phone remained switched off.
Deed Writers’ Association President Ishaq Ul Alam said, “We only received a letter saying our certificates were cancelled. We do not know the reason. No prior notice was issued. If false cases are filed against us, we have nothing to say.”
