Dhaka, Sep 09 (V7N) – Abidul Islam Khan, Vice President (VP) candidate of the Chhatra Dal panel in the ongoing Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections, has alleged rigging and bias during the voting process.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday afternoon, Abidul said, “Today we did not want to make any complaint, we wanted to celebrate. But we have already received a complaint about Rokeya Hall. I entered the hall with the permission of the returning officer and got the truth of the incident.”
He added that a student had reported receiving a ballot with a cross mark next to the names of Sadiq and Farhad, which he described as concerning. Abidul immediately entered the polling station to seek clarification from authorities, who reportedly confirmed the incident and called for a proper investigation. He also urged non-resident students to come to the polling centers to exercise their voting rights and safeguard their freedom of expression.
Earlier in the day, Abidul had dismissed allegations against Chhatra Dal as imaginary and a conspiracy aimed at making the election controversial.
This year’s DUCSU elections feature 39,775 eligible voters, including 20,873 male and 18,902 female students, with 471 candidates contesting for 28 posts. Voting is taking place across 810 booths in 8 centers.
