Dhaka, Sep 12 (V7N) – The counting of votes for the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) elections has been suspended as an emergency meeting of returning officers is underway to decide whether to continue using the OMR method or proceed with manual counting.
A formal decision is expected after the emergency meeting. Election authorities have warned that if the OMR method is not used, counting for the remaining three halls may remain suspended. Students and candidates have expressed frustration over the manual counting process.
Voting for the JUCSU elections was held from 9 am to 5 pm on Thursday (Sept 11). Although the counting was originally scheduled to be conducted using OMR machines, objections from several panels—including Chhatra Dal—led to manual counting, causing significant delays. Even after nearly 20 hours, the Election Commission could not complete the Hall of Parliament vote counting.
The final method of counting will determine when the remaining results will be announced and could affect the overall declaration of JUCSU election winners.
