DHAKA, April 12, (V7N) - The office of the Chief Prosecutor at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has called on all media outlets to exercise caution and act responsibly while reporting on matters related to the tribunal.

In a press release signed by Administrative Officer Md Masud Rana, the ICT office condemned what it described as a distorted and misleading presentation of a recent statement made by the Chief Prosecutor. The statement reportedly sparked controversy following its publication by a media outlet.

“We strongly protest the misrepresentation of the Chief Prosecutor’s remarks. The concerned media report is misleading, untrue, and appears to be deliberately motivated,” the press release stated, urging the media house to withdraw the report.

According to the ICT office, during a view-sharing meeting with journalists covering the tribunal on April 10, the Chief Prosecutor did not make the controversial remark attributed to him. “The claim that he said, ‘If the trial is conducted properly, the number of senior generals in the forces will not be there,’ is entirely fabricated,” the release clarified.

The office said the reporter in question misunderstood the context of the discussion and published a misleading headline, which has since generated confusion and controversy.

Reiterating its call for responsible journalism, the ICT office urged all media professionals to verify statements before publication and uphold the integrity of reporting, particularly in sensitive matters concerning the tribunal’s work.
