DHAKA, July 08 (V7N) – The National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO) has provided legal assistance to a significant number of individuals, reaching 1,88,528 people through its toll-free call center from its inception until May of this year. This information was officially released on the organization's website today.

The NLASO, operating under the supervision of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, is mandated to provide legal help to poor and insolvent individuals across the country who cannot afford legal representation.

Initially, NLASO's services were primarily introduced at the district level. However, to enhance accessibility, the organization expanded its reach by launching a toll-free call center (16430), establishing services within all prisons, and setting up Workers Legal Assistant Cells in Dhaka and Chattogram.

Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim, Public Relations Officer of the Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry, confirmed that the toll-free call center (16430) was introduced in 2016. Since its launch, a total of 1,88,328 people have received legal services through this call center up to May of the current year. Prior to the establishment of the toll-free call center, the number of people receiving legal assistance was considerably lower, at only 17,328. This highlights the significant impact of the dedicated helpline in making legal aid more accessible to the public.

In addition to the call center, NLASO's services are provided through a network of 64 District Legal Aid Offices, the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office in Dhaka, and the Workers' Legal Aid Cells in Dhaka and Chattogram. These comprehensive efforts aim to ensure that financially disadvantaged individuals have access to justice and legal support.
