Dhaka, Jan 30 (V7N) – General students of Dhaka University (DU) staged protest marches and rallies on Wednesday night, condemning the February programs announced by the Awami League (AL).

The students began their marches from various halls of the university and later gathered at the Raju Memorial Sculpture for a protest rally.

Students Demand Ban on Awami League

During the rally, student speakers strongly opposed the ruling party’s planned activities, stating that the Awami League had announced its program even before the bloodstains of the July massacre had dried.

They called for a ban on the Awami League, accusing the party of student and public killings. The protesters also warned against allowing the Awami League to continue its political activities, vowing to launch a movement against anyone who gives them space to operate.

Awami League’s Announced Programs

On Tuesday night (January 28), the Awami League announced its February programs via its verified Facebook page, which include:

  • February 1-5: Distribution of leaflets/pamphlets outlining demands.
  • February 6: Protest marches and rallies across the country.
  • February 10: Another round of protest marches and rallies.
  • February 16: Blockade programs nationwide.
  • February 18: A strict nationwide strike in the morning and evening.

The DU students have declared that they will resist any attempts by the Awami League to execute these programs, adding further tensions to the country’s already volatile political landscape.
