DHAKA,  June 23 (V7N)— The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has officially condemned the mob incident involving former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda, stating it does not support “mob culture” and will investigate any party involvement.

BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed issued the statement Monday following growing backlash over Huda’s public apprehension before his arrest in an election manipulation case. “We do not believe in mob culture. We are constantly struggling to establish the rule of law,” he said.

Salahuddin emphasized that while the BNP expects justice for Huda’s alleged crimes, any trial or investigation must be conducted lawfully. “We hope the allegations against Nurul Huda, his arrest, and his trial will follow legal procedures,” he added.

He clarified that the incident was isolated and did not represent BNP’s values. “We do not support his public humiliation,” Salahuddin said, stressing the need to uphold everyone’s legal and constitutional rights — including political opponents.

The BNP leader also criticized Nurul Huda’s tenure, accusing him of dismantling democratic institutions to favor former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. “He is among those responsible for destroying the electoral system and prolonging fascist rule,” Salahuddin alleged.
