DHAKA, Feb 21, (V7N) - The ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) also paid rich tributes to the martyrs. Party Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman led his delegation in placing a wreath at the Shaheed Minar. Later, the premier, along with his wife Dr Zubaida Rahman and daughter Barrister Zaima Rahman, placed another wreath on behalf of their family.

Earlier, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had paid homage to the martyrs as head of government.

Also Leader of the Opposition and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman paid homage to the martyrs of the 1952 Language Movement by placing a wreath at the Central Shaheed Minar at 12:22 am today, marking Ekushey February and International Mother Language Day.

He was accompanied by Opposition Whip and National Citizen Party Convener Nahid Islam, NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain, and senior leaders of the 11-party alliance. After paying tribute at the Shaheed Minar, Dr Rahman visited Azimpur graveyard where he offered prayers for the eternal peace of the language martyrs.
