Dhaka, Dec 23 (V7N) — AF Hasan Arif, former advisor to the interim government’s Ministry of Civil Aviation, Tourism, and Ministry of Land, was laid to rest this morning at the Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals Cemetery.

The burial took place at 10:30 am, following the arrival of his body from the Combined Military Hospital (CMH). The funeral was attended by the Home Affairs Advisor, senior government officials, and close colleagues who paid their respects to a man remembered for his dedication and reformative work.

During the funeral, colleagues reflected on Hasan Arif’s lifelong commitment to his duties. They described him as a dynamic leader who introduced significant reforms during his tenure. "He served with unparalleled dedication," said one colleague.

Family members also shared personal memories. His son, Muaz Arif, said, "Growing up, we often saw our father deeply engaged in his work, whether in the court or his chamber. Despite his busy schedule, he always cared for us. His contributions will continue to benefit the country for years to come."

Today, Bangladesh observed state mourning to honour Hasan Arif. The national flag was flown at half-mast across government and private buildings, educational institutions, and Bangladeshi missions abroad. Special prayers were held in mosques and other religious institutions for the departed soul.

Hasan Arif passed away on December 20, 2024, at the age of 85 due to cardiac arrest at LabAid Hospital in Dhaka.

Born on July 10, 1941, in Kolkata, India, Hasan Arif graduated from St. Xavier's College and later earned his LLB from the University of Calcutta. He began his legal career at the Calcutta High Court in 1967 before moving to Dhaka, where he practiced in the Bangladesh High Court.

He served as Attorney General of Bangladesh from 2001 to 2005 and held key advisory roles in the caretaker government from 2008 to 2009. Most recently, he was appointed as an advisor to the Interim Government of Bangladesh in August 2024, overseeing multiple ministries, including Local Government, Rural Development, and Land.

Hasan Arif’s contributions to Bangladesh’s legal and governmental landscape remain significant, leaving behind a legacy of service and reform.
