Dhaka, Dec 25 (V7N) — The Christian community across Bangladesh is celebrating their biggest religious festival, Christmas, with devotion, joy, and a variety of cultural and religious events. From Dhaka to the remote areas of Rangamati, festivities include prayers, cake-cutting, cultural performances, and vibrant decorations, symbolising the spirit of peace and unity.

Dhaka

The capital witnessed grand celebrations with churches, shopping malls, and five-star hotels adorned in dazzling decorations. The Holy Rosary Church in Tejgaon started the day with prayers led by Father Jayanto S. Gomez, calling for global peace and an end to conflicts, including those in Ukraine, Israel, and Syria. Five-star hotels like Westin and Sheraton organised special events for children, adding to the festive spirit.

Comilla

In Comilla, celebrations began with worship at Baptist and Catholic churches. Sister Mary Lioba inaugurated the day by cutting a Christmas cake at the Hourly of Fatima Catholic Church. Santa Claus delighted children by distributing gifts, while prayers and music brought the community together.

Naogaon

At St. Mark's Church, the Christian community celebrated with hymns, readings, and a cultural programme. Devotees emphasised the importance of Jesus Christ's teachings and shared their hope for peace and prosperity.

Khulna

Churches in Khulna hosted special prayers with enthusiastic participation from all age groups. Devotees prayed for a harmonious and violence-free Bangladesh, expressing hopes for a better future.

Bogura

Nine churches in Bogura held celebrations that included prayers, cultural events, and cake-cutting ceremonies. Pastor Gilbad Medha of the Christian Mission highlighted the significance of living in peace and harmony.

Bandarban

In the hill district of Bandarban, Fatima Rani Catholic Church hosted mass prayers and community singing. Christian devotees emphasised self-purification and the importance of living together in harmony, inspired by Jesus’ teachings.

Mongla

The Shehlabunia Catholic Church in Mongla was the centre of festivities, with prayers and rituals continuing from Tuesday night. Villages and churches were illuminated with colourful decorations, creating a festive atmosphere.

Rajshahi

The Good Shepherd Cathedral in Rajshahi held a yoga service and special prayers led by Bishop Jervas Rosario, who urged devotees to embrace forgiveness and brotherhood.

Chittagong

At the historic Queen of the Rosary Church in Patharghata, Chittagong, prayers and music celebrated the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. Churches were adorned with goshalas and Christmas trees, drawing people from across the city.

Kalapara

The Christian village of Nilganj Union in Kalapara celebrated Christmas with prayers, hymns, and community feasts. Devotees expressed gratitude and sought forgiveness through their prayers.

Meherpur

Churches in Meherpur held midnight prayers and morning services. Festivities included sharing traditional food and visiting symbolic cowsheds depicting Jesus' birth.

Barisal

St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Barisal hosted the main event with devotional songs and prayers led by Father Paul. Over 110 churches in the district participated in the celebrations.

Moulvibazar

Sreemangal's Christian mission saw a vibrant gathering for prayers and cultural performances. Khasi villages in the district were adorned with colourful decorations to mark the occasion.

Rangamati

Churches in Rangamati hosted special prayers and community music sessions. Villages were decorated with colourful crafts, symbolising the joy of Christmas.

Rangpur

The Baptist Church in Rangpur city held morning prayers and music. Devotees sang hymns and prayed for a brighter, peaceful future, with enhanced security ensuring smooth celebrations.

Mymensingh

At Saint Patrick's Cathedral Church in Mymensingh, prayers, music, and a discussion led by Bishop Ganen Paul Kubi highlighted the festival’s message of love and forgiveness.
