Dinajpur, Jan 02 (V7N) — Commerce Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin revealed that the Awami League government initially distributed over 10 million Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) cards through alleged party-based allocation. This number has since been reduced to 5.6 million based on verified data and information. Additionally, plans are underway to distribute another 600,000 new TCB cards to ensure fair access to subsidised goods.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with the district administration, Sudhijan, and TCB dealers in Dinajpur, the advisor detailed the government's measures to stabilise the market for essential commodities.

Sheikh Bashiruddin stated that hundreds of thousands of tons of rice are being imported to maintain market stability, with 50,000 tons already arriving in Chittagong from India. He assured that rice prices would be regulated to avoid harming farmers while ensuring affordability for consumers.

Addressing concerns about price hikes during Ramadan, the advisor committed to keeping the prices of essential items, such as dates and chickpeas, under control. He added that the Consumer Rights Department is working tirelessly to monitor the market and will further intensify its efforts to prevent price manipulation.

The measures aim to ease the burden on consumers while supporting farmers and ensuring fair distribution of resources through the revised TCB card system.
