Dhaka, Jan 17 (V7N) — The Airport Armed Police Battalion (APBN) has apprehended a drug trafficker, Md. Palash (28), with 3,588 pieces of Yaba tablets disguised as an airline passenger. The arrest was made on Thursday evening at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, following a tip-off.
According to APBN, Palash was traveling from Cox's Bazar to Dhaka on a Novo Air flight. Upon suspicion, he was detained at the airport’s inner terminal. During questioning, Palash admitted to smuggling Yaba tablets concealed in his stomach.
Under medical supervision at Kurmitola General Hospital, 78 oval-shaped packets wrapped in black cast tape were extracted through natural processes. Upon opening the packets, 3,588 Yaba tablets were recovered.
APBN officials revealed that Palash has been involved in drug trafficking for an extended period, using innovative methods to evade detection.
Additional DIG Sihab Kaiser Khan, Commanding Officer of APBN, stated, "We are observing increasing attempts by drug traffickers to use the airport for smuggling. APBN is committed to preventing any such criminal activities and ensuring the safety of air travel."
A case has been filed against Palash under the Narcotics Control Act at the Airport Police Station. Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the trafficking network.
