Dhaka, Jan 23 (V7N) —The Malaysian Immigration Department (Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia or JIM) in Kuala Lumpur has arrested 176 illegal immigrants, including 71 Bangladeshi nationals, during an operation in the Jalan Alor area of Bukit Bintang.
Kuala Lumpur JIM Director Wan Mohammed Saupee Wan Yusoff said the operation, which began at 7:15pm on Monday in collaboration with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), was initiated following public complaints and investigations.
Among those detainees, 71 were from Bangladesh, 60 from Myanmar, 24 from Indonesia, 16 from Nepal, three from Pakistan, and one each from Egypt and Sudan.
"The case is being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, along with Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963, covering offences related to lacking valid documents and overstaying in Malaysia," Yusoff said.
The arrested individuals were taken to the Kuala Lumpur Immigration headquarters for processing and further action.
The operation involved 61 officers and personnel from JIM, along with 30 officers from DBKL.
