Dhaka, Jan 29 (V7N) -Train services in Bangladesh resumed on Wednesday after a 26-hour strike by Bangladesh Railways’ running staff ended. The strike was called off at 2:45 AM following a meeting between Railways Adviser Fouzul Kabir, leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, and the Bangladesh Railway Running Staff and Workers' Union.

Union leader Md Mojibur Rahman announced the decision, citing government assurances to resolve their demands through the finance ministry by Wednesday. He apologized for the inconvenience and urged railway staff to return to work.

Shortly after, the Sagardari Express (Khulna-bound) and Madhumati Express (Dhaka-bound) departed Rajshahi Station, while the Banalata Express resumed service from Chapainawabganj to Rajshahi. However, most trains had empty seats due to the late-night announcement.

The railway staff had begun their nationwide work abstention from Monday midnight, demanding special post-retirement allowances and other financial benefits. The strike caused severe disruptions, leaving thousands of passengers stranded.

With the government pledging to resolve the issue by Wednesday, both railway workers and passengers await further updates. The situation remains uncertain until the promised actions are implemented.
