Health Minister Dr. Samanta Lal Sen affirmed on Thursday that advanced medical care would be provided to the Gazipur burn victims in response to the tragic incident caused by a cylinder explosion the day before.

Chairing a high-level board meeting at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, convened specifically to address the aftermath of the Gazipur tragedy, the health minister gathered detailed information about the condition of the injured patients. Inquiries were made regarding the severity of burns, the presence of children among the victims, and the status of patients in intensive care and high-dependency units.

During the meeting, Dr. Sen highlighted the profound concern of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the well-being of the burn victims, emphasizing the need for comprehensive care. He assured that the expenses for their treatment would be personally overseen by the Prime Minister.

Expressing empathy for the unimaginable physical agony endured by burn victims, the minister underscored the importance of providing each patient with compassionate and thorough care, akin to that given to a family member.

Presently, 32 individuals are undergoing treatment following the cylinder explosion in Gazipur. Among them, five are in the intensive care unit (ICU) and two in the high-dependency unit (HDU). Dr. Sen noted that 16 patients have sustained severe burns covering more than 50 percent of their bodies.

The victims, including women and children, suffered burn injuries in the aftermath of a gas cylinder explosion in Gazipur's Kaliakair area on Wednesday.
