Dhaka, Aug 17 (V7N) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has instructed all Bangladeshi diplomatic missions, consulates, and diplomats’ offices and residences abroad to remove the photograph of President Md. Shahabuddin, according to sources from several foreign missions.
Diplomatic sources confirmed that the instruction was communicated informally through telephone calls to certain regional ambassadors and high commissioners. However, no official circular, letter, or e-mail has been issued so far.
Instructions to Envoys
According to officials, the envoys who received the directive have also been tasked with informing other missions of the ministry’s decision. “We have been instructed to remove the President’s photo and to ensure that other missions are notified,” one mission head confirmed.
Mixed Awareness Across Missions
It has been learned that some Bangladeshi missions in South Asia, Africa, and Europe have not yet received the instruction. However, at least two foreign mission chiefs confirmed they had been contacted and would oversee the implementation of the order.
The development marks an unusual step in the diplomatic protocol, as official portraits of the country’s President are traditionally displayed at Bangladesh missions abroad.
