Chittagong, Feb 03 (V7N) — The Chittagong Port Protection Council has announced an indefinite strike to protest the decision to lease the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) of Chittagong Port to foreign company DP World. The announcement was made at a briefing on Monday (February 3) afternoon.

As part of the ongoing protest, workers began a 24-hour strike from 8 am on Tuesday, following a previously announced program. The Chittagong Sramik Karmachar Oikya Parishad, led by Ishaq, blocked the road at the toll plaza near the depot from 11 am, demanding that the lease decision be reversed.

The strike has caused severe congestion at the port and private ICDs, creating a container jam that is disrupting the transport of goods and affecting traders.

In response, additional police forces have been deployed at several port entrances to prevent unrest, and meetings and gatherings have been banned in the port area.
