Dhaka, Feb 26 (V7N) — Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has instructed that the Amar Ekushey Book Fair should be expanded beyond Dhaka to reach people across the country. She made this announcement during the inauguration ceremony of the fair, held at the Bangla Academy premises under the theme ‘Multidimensional Bangladesh’ on Thursday afternoon.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the fair should serve as a breeding ground for education and culture, encouraging citizens to become avid readers. She also highlighted the importance of working to get Bangla recognized as an official language of the United Nations.

She remarked on the impact of internet addiction, noting that it has diverted the younger generation from books. The Prime Minister called for raising awareness among youth about the negative aspects of excessive internet use and promoting ways to spark interest in reading.

In addition to her remarks, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman presented awards to this year’s winners of the Bangla Academy Literary Award, recognizing contributions to literature and culture.

Officials at the fair noted that the expansion plan would involve collaborations with regional cultural centers, educational institutions, and local governments to make the book fair accessible nationwide, fostering a love for literature across Bangladesh.
