Narayanganj, Feb 28 (V7N) — Road Transport and Bridges, Railways and Shipping Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam has said that this year’s Eid journey is expected to be more comfortable and safer than in previous years, with law-enforcement and transport agencies placed on high alert.

He made the remarks while visiting Narayanganj Terminal on Saturday morning.

Agencies on Alert

The minister said that the Traffic Department, Naval Police, Coast Guard, Ansar and other relevant agencies have been instructed to remain vigilant to ensure smooth movement of passengers during the Eid rush.

No Fare Increase

Responding to questions from reporters, he clearly stated that transport fares will not be increased during Eid. Strict action will be taken against any operator found charging extra.

Warning Against Extortion

On the issue of extortion, the minister said that authorities will treat any verified allegation as a criminal offence and take legal action accordingly.

Action Over Artificial Crisis

He also alleged that some traders are attempting to create artificial shortages by hoarding essential commodities. As an example, he mentioned reports of lighter ships being halted at ports without unloading wheat, adding that legal proceedings are already underway.

The minister expressed hope that coordinated efforts by authorities will ensure a hassle-free journey for holidaymakers across the country.
