Thakurgaon, May 20 (V7N) — Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has criticized Jamaat-e-Islami, saying the party engages in politics using religion and spreads misinformation to the public.
He made the remarks on Wednesday (May 19) at a reception organized by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) after visiting the abandoned airport in Thakurgaon.
The minister claimed that before the elections, Jamaat had been “boasting about coming to power,” but failed to secure public support. He added that the people of Bangladesh would not vote them into power due to their historical stance during the 1971 Liberation War and alleged opposition to independence.
He further said that Jamaat had engaged in violence against freedom fighters during the war and insisted that the public would not forgive such history.
Referring to ongoing political narratives, he alleged that some parties are attempting to mislead the public by spreading propaganda regarding the “July Charter,” while asserting that BNP is working toward its implementation.
He urged Jamaat-e-Islami to refrain from spreading falsehoods, warning that “the people will not forgive lies.”
Speaking at the event, he also said that the BNP is a liberal political party committed to working with people of all religions, including Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, and Christians, to move the country forward collectively.
