Dhaka, May 24 (V7N) – Livestock and Fisheries Minister Amin Ur Rashid has said that Bangladesh has sufficient cattle stock to meet the demand for Eid-ul-Azha sacrifice through domestically produced animals.

He made the remarks after visiting the Diyabari cattle market in the capital on Sunday (May 24).

The minister said he personally raises cattle and plans to sell 45 cows this Eid, describing cattle farming as a personal hobby as well as a national agricultural activity supported through government projects. He added that many farmers receive cows and goats under various development initiatives and later bring them to sacrificial markets after rearing them.

Claiming that no foreign cattle were present in the market, the minister said he could identify locally raised animals due to his experience in livestock farming. He emphasized that protecting the interests of domestic farmers remains a government priority.

He also said measures have been taken to prevent counterfeit currency transactions in cattle markets, including the deployment of money verification machines at police booths and support from banking services. Market leaseholders are also assisting in monitoring transactions.

Regarding security, the minister said law enforcement agencies have increased vigilance to prevent theft and ensure safety in the markets. While acknowledging that isolated incidents may occur, he added that volunteers are working alongside authorities to maintain order during the Eid season.
