DHAKA, Feb 24, (V7N) – Masato Kanda officially assumed office today as the 11th President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), vowing to drive sustainable and inclusive growth across Asia and the Pacific.

"I am deeply honored to take on the role of ADB President at this important moment for our region," Kanda said in his inaugural address. "With the trust of our 69 members and the strong support of our dedicated staff, I am committed to advancing ADB’s mission to promote sustainable, inclusive, and resilient growth. Together, we will respond to pressing development challenges, ensuring that ADB remains the partner of choice for the region."

Kanda succeeds Masatsugu Asakawa, continuing a legacy of leadership and innovation in regional development, according to an ADB press release.

An Experienced Financial Leader

With nearly four decades of expertise in international finance and development policy, Kanda is widely recognized for his strategic leadership and decisive actions during financial market volatility.

As Japan’s Vice-Minister of Finance for International Affairs, he played a key role in stabilizing global markets through pioneering financial solutions and coordinated policy interventions. His vast experience in managing complex economic policies and engaging in multilateral forums will be crucial in guiding ADB amid evolving global challenges.

Unanimous Election Reflects Confidence

The ADB Board of Governors unanimously elected Kanda, demonstrating broad confidence in his ability to lead the institution at a time of significant transformation.

Founded in 1966, ADB is a leading multilateral development bank committed to fostering sustainable, inclusive, and resilient growth across Asia and the Pacific. It is owned by 69 members, 49 of which are from the region.
