Dhaka, Oct 02 (V7N) – The Awami League and its 14-party allies, including the Workers Party of Bangladesh and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasad), have been accused of genocide in a complaint submitted to the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Wednesday.

Bobby Hajjaj, chairman of the Nationalist Democratic Movement (NDM), lodged the complaint with the office of the ICT's chief prosecutor, alleging that the Awami League provided direct instructions for barbaric acts against the population.

Hajjaj expressed his desire for the tribunal to frame genocide charges against these parties and ensure they face justice for their alleged crimes. He noted that the complaint also names other members of the 14-party alliance, including the Bangladesh Samyabadi Dal, Tariqat Foundation, Ganatantri Party, and National Awami Party.

In a separate development, another complaint was filed on the same day concerning the killing of schoolboy Anas in Chankharpul on August 5. This complaint, lodged by Anas's father, Palash, implicates 25 individuals, including the ousted prime minister, Sheikh Hasina.

Chief Prosecutor Advocate Tajul Islam highlighted that Anas was involved in an anti-discrimination student movement and left a letter for his parents, seeking forgiveness and urging them to be proud of him should he fail to return from the protest. The prosecutor noted that video footage has emerged showing members of the Armed Police Battalion firing indiscriminately in the area on that day.

So far, the ICT has received a total of 31 complaints related to alleged genocides and crimes against humanity, with 13 submitted directly to the chief prosecutor's office and the remainder to the investigation agency.
