Dhaka, Oct 17 (V7N) – A Dhaka court has issued travel bans on seven individuals, including three former Awami League lawmakers, amid ongoing corruption investigations.

The individuals affected by the court's decision include former railways minister and Awami League MP from Rajbari-2 Md Zillul Hakim, his wife Syeda Hakim, and their son Ashik Mahmud Mitul; former Awami League MP from Feni-2 Md Nizam Uddin Hazari and his wife Nurjahan Begum; and former Awami League MP from Bogura-5 Md Habibur Rahman and his son Mohammad Asif Iqbal.

Judge Mohammed Ash-Shams Joglul Hossain of the Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's Court in Dhaka passed the orders following applications submitted by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The applications were filed by ACC Deputy Director Md Nurul Huda, Assistant Director Mohammad Zinnatul Islam, and Deputy Assistant Director KM Asaduzzaman, who are leading the investigation teams. ACC Public Prosecutor Mahmud Hossain Jahangir represented the anti-corruption body during the proceedings.

According to the ACC's application, Zillul Hakim, his wife, and son are accused of accumulating substantial wealth through illicit means and abuse of power. Similarly, Nizam Hazari and his wife are also alleged to have amassed a significant fortune through corruption and power misuse.

The ACC further noted credible reports suggesting the accused might attempt to leave the country, justifying the need for the travel ban.

In another application, ACC official KM Asaduzzaman accused Habibur Rahman and his son of acquiring wealth through illegal activities, including terrorism, tender manipulation, and abuse of authority.

The individuals are currently under investigation for these allegations, involving the acquisition of vast amounts of wealth under their names and their family members' names.

The court has directed the ACC to forward the order sheets to the Special Branch's immigration division for necessary action.
