Rajshahi, Jan 29 (V7N) - A mobile court in Rajshahi has sentenced Liton Hossain, a young man from the Serampur area, to three days in jail for hunting migratory birds. This decision came after his arrest during a joint operation conducted by the Rajshahi Forest Department's wildlife inspector and the naval police on January 28, 2025.

During the operation, authorities discovered four dead ducks and approximately 300 meters of electric netting in Liton's possession. Jahangir Kabir, the wildlife inspector, stated that they frequently conduct raids in the Padma Char area of Rajshahi, where they often find dead migratory birds. The operation was prompted by a tip-off regarding the use of poison bait in the area. Following this information, the team executed a raid, leading to Liton's arrest along with the seized birds.

The case was brought before the district administration, and Assistant Commissioner Ashiq Zaman presided over the mobile court. Liton was sentenced to three days in prison, and the illegal nets were subsequently destroyed by burning. This incident highlights ongoing efforts by local authorities to combat wildlife poaching and protect migratory bird populations in the region.
