Sirajganj, Jan  29, (V7N) - A murder case has been filed against 47 individuals, including former MP Dr. Habibe Millat Munna of Sirajganj-2 and several other Awami League leaders and activists, for the murder of a BNP worker 10 years ago.
 
On January 26, the wife of the victim, Jahangir Hossain, Rozina Khatun, filed the case in the Kamarkhand Amali Court. Jahangir Hossain, the son of the late Delowar Hossain from Tetulia village, was killed in 2014.
 
The victim's lawyer, S. M. Nazmul Islam, stated that the court instructed the Kamarkhand Police Station to register the case and conduct an investigation, with a report to be submitted to the court. The case includes 42 named accused and 4 to 5 unidentified individuals.
 
Key accused in the case include former MP Dr. Habibe Millat Munna, district Awami League Joint General Secretary, former Chairman of Kamarkhand Upazila, Riyaz Uddin, former Mayor of Sirajganj Municipality Syed Abdur Rouf Mukta, and other prominent local Awami League leaders.
 
According to the case, Jahangir Hossain had political and social conflicts with the accused. They allegedly demanded a bribe of 15 lakh taka from him. When he refused to pay, the accused planned to assault, kill, and abduct him. On January 30, 2014, Jahangir was abducted while returning home. His wife was then contacted and demanded a ransom of 15 lakh taka for his release. The family paid 10 lakh taka on February 7 and 9, 2014, but the accused continued to delay his release.
 
On February 15, 2014, Jahangir's body was found near the Jhail Overbridge in Kamarkhand, with signs of severe assault and gunshot wounds. A murder case was filed by a local official, Sachin Chandra Das, on the same day. The police initially filed a final report without identifying the suspects. The victim's wife had been unable to file a case earlier due to threats to her life.
