Chattogram, Jan 23, (V7N) – Tension spread inside the Chattogram Export Processing Zone (CEPZ) on Wednesday night following reports of alleged theft. The situation escalated into a confrontation between workers and law enforcement agencies.
 
The incident occurred at around 10:30 PM, when rumors of three children entering a construction site spread, sparking fears of theft. Construction workers mistook the children for thieves and reportedly assaulted them. When a patrol vehicle from the Navy arrived to intervene, the workers turned hostile and damaged the vehicle.
 
In response, military personnel were dispatched to the scene to calm the situation. Police, along with additional troops from the army and the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), were also deployed to restore order. Several people have been reported injured due to the altercation.
 
The CEPZ police station clarified that the disturbance was triggered by a misunderstanding. The situation has now been brought under control with the presence of additional security forces at the site.
