Mongla, Feb 13, (V7N) – The Mongla municipal BNP staged a protest march demanding the removal of the UNO, Afia Sharmin, over allegations of holding a secret meeting with four Union Parishad chairmen from the Awami League at her office. The protest march, which started from Shapla Chattar in the town, circled through the key roads of the town and concluded with a rally at the Municipal Market square.
During the rally, the speakers accused UNO Afia Sharmin of being a supporter of the fascist Hasina regime and said she had been holding secret meetings with the Awami League's local leaders, including chairmen of Chandpai, Mithakhali, Buridanga, and Chila UPs. They claimed that the UNO was implementing the Awami League’s agenda in the region.
The speakers also criticized the UNO for halting development activities in the town while serving as the municipal administrator. They demanded her immediate removal, threatening to lay siege to the Upazila Parishad within 24 hours if their demand was not met.
In response, UNO Afia Sharmin claimed that a meeting on social forestry was held at her office on Wednesday, where the chairmen of the respective unions and a BNP leader were also present. She refused to comment further on the protests and demonstrations against her.
