Rajshahi, Mar 19 (V7N)– A violent clash erupted between two groups at the Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner's (DC) office on Tuesday afternoon over the submission of tenders for the Balumahal lease.

The altercation began in front of the SA branch on the second floor of the DC office and escalated to the street outside. One individual, identified as Md. Raihan, sustained injuries and was taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. After receiving initial treatment, he filed a complaint at the city's Rajpara police station.

The clash stemmed from a dispute over the tender submission deadline. Raihan, who accompanied District Chhatra Dal President Shamim Sarkar, arrived after the 1 p.m. deadline.

Eyewitnesses reported that Shamim Sarkar and his group were prevented from submitting their tenders by police and those who had submitted earlier. Subsequently, individuals from the Guripara area, including Shahid Haji, Zahurul, Nazir, Tia, Nuru, and Farooq, allegedly forcibly submitted tenders after the deadline.

This action triggered a confrontation between the two groups, with Shamim Sarkar's supporters demanding they also be allowed to submit tenders. Raihan was reportedly assaulted inside the SA branch, and a chase and counter-chase ensued outside the DC office.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Mohd. Jobayer Hossain acknowledged witnessing the altercation but stated he was unaware of the cause. When questioned about the late tender submissions, he claimed he had not received any reports of such activity.

Ashraful Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Rajpara police station, confirmed that Raihan had filed a complaint. "Injured Raihan came from the hospital and lodged a complaint with the police station. Legal action will be taken after an investigation," said OC Islam.
