Dhaka, Mar 19 (V7N) – Yasin Ferdous Murad, President of the Dhaka District Jubo Dal, stated that while Bangladesh is no longer under dictatorship, democracy has yet to be fully restored. He urged all citizens to continue their struggle with patience, courage, and a peaceful stance until democracy is reinstated.

Murad made these remarks on Wednesday (March 19) while attending separate iftar mahfils organized by Baishakanda and Jadavpur Union BNP and its affiliated organizations in Dhamrai. The Baishakanda iftar was held at Sahan Rugunath Bazar Ground, while the Jadavpur iftar took place at BM School and College Ground.

During his speech, Murad accused the government of eliminating democracy and restricting people’s right to vote. He criticized the abolition of the caretaker government system from the Constitution, claiming that this decision has effectively exiled democracy from the country.

“No elections have taken place in the country for the past 16 years. After the fall of dictatorship, the people are eager to vote. The government must allow them to exercise their voting rights by holding free and fair elections,” Murad said.

He also alleged that supporters of dictatorship are still influencing state institutions and conspiring against the country. He called for unity to confront these forces and fight for democracy.

Murad further emphasized the need to strengthen the economic foundation of the youth to prevent social and political degradation. He called for more support in business, trade, and employment to ensure the youth remain engaged in constructive activities.

The Baishakanda iftar mahfil was presided over by Ward No. 4 BNP President Labib Uddin, with the presence of Lokman Dewan, Khandaker Ayub, Ibadul Haque Zahid, Abul Hossain, Rakib Hossain, Mizanur Rahman, Amir Hamza, Imran Hossain, and others.

Meanwhile, the Jadavpur Union iftar mahfil was chaired by Altaf Hossain, attended by Ali Akbar, Ishtiaq Ahmed Faruk, Shahidul Islam Sujan, Farhad Hossain Rimon, Jasim Mollah, Kamruzzaman Liton, Siddique Hossain Mintu, and others.

Murad's remarks come at a time of growing political discussions about electoral reforms and the future of democracy in Bangladesh.
