Mongla, Mar 19 (V7N)– A man who attempted to rape an 8-year-old child in Mongla has been apprehended by local residents and handed over to the police.

The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon in Balur Maidan, Ward No. 5 of Mongla municipality. According to local residents and police, Ali Molla, 35, took the child to a nearby pond with the intent to rape her.

The attempted assault was witnessed by the child's classmates, who immediately alerted her family. Local residents then intervened, rescuing the child and apprehending Ali Molla. By the time he was caught, it was clear he had attempted to rape the young girl.

Following the apprehension, local residents physically assaulted Ali Molla before handing him over to the police. Ali Molla is described as a drug addict, vagrant, and daily wage laborer, originally from Khulna.

"Locals in Mongla caught a young man red-handed trying to rape an 8-year-old child and beat him up and handed him over to the police," a local source stated.

Mongla Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Anisur Rahman confirmed the arrest and stated that Ali Molla is currently in police custody. "The attempted rape suspect, Ali Molla, is in police custody. The matter of taking legal action against him is under process," he said.
