The deceased fish trader has been identified as Abdur Razzak (35), a resident of Goalbari village in Atrai Upazila of Naogaon, which borders Bagmara. The individual accused of the stabbing and subsequently lynched was Aminul Islam (22), also from the same village.

According to police accounts, the initial stabbing occurred around 5:30 PM at Nazrul's tea shop in Ranshibari Bazar. Aminul Islam allegedly entered the shop and stabbed Abdur Razzak with a knife, who died at the scene. Aminul then attempted to flee.
"Police and local witnesses said that on Friday afternoon, Abdur Razzak was sitting at Nazrul's tea shop in Ranshibari Bazar and drinking tea. At around 5:30 pm, Aminul Islam (22) of the same village entered the shop and stabbed Abdur Razzak with a knife, injuring him. He fell to the ground. After confirming his death, he ran away," a local eyewitness recounted.
Local residents apprehended Aminul, who sought refuge in a nearby house. An angry mob surrounded the residence. When Bagmara police arrived to take Aminul into custody, they were met with resistance from the crowd.
"Local people came to know about the matter and chased Aminul. At one stage, he took shelter in Abdur Rashid's house in Ranshibari village. Angry people surrounded the house. Upon receiving the information, the Bagmara police reached the spot and tried to rescue him. However, they failed due to the people's obstruction. The people tried to break the door of the house several times and enter. They handed over the accused to them and asked the police to leave," police reports indicated.
Around 7:30 PM, the mob forcibly entered the house, assaulting six police officers who attempted to intervene, including Sub-Inspector Sadiqul Islam. They then seized Aminul, beat him severely, and reportedly killed him by crushing his head with a brick.
"Police and local residents also said that at one point, around 7:30 pm, angry people broke down the door of the house and entered inside. When they resisted, the angry people insulted and beat up six police members, including Sub-Inspector Sadiqul Islam, and entered inside. Then, they took him out of the house and beat him up, resulting in the death of the young man," a local resident confirmed.
Local sources suggest the altercation may have stemmed from a financial dispute related to Abdur Razzak's fish sales. There are also reports that Aminul Islam had a history of problematic behavior and was allegedly involved in an incident of assault four days prior.
"According to local sources, Abdur Razzak is a fish trader. Aminul Islam is known as a scoundrel and drug addict. They had a good relationship. Four days ago, it was alleged that Aminul beat up a woman. A general diary has been filed with Atrai Police Station in this regard," local sources revealed.
Bagmara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Touhidul Islam confirmed the sequence of events, stating that the dispute appeared to be over money and that the police were overwhelmed by the mob.
"Bagmara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Touhidul Islam told Bangladesh Pratidin that Abdur Razzak, who was stabbed to death, was a fish trader by profession. He had sold fish at a local market on Friday and had taken money from it and sat at a tea shop. Aminul Islam entered the tea shop and demanded the money. When he refused to pay, Aminul Islam stabbed Razzak with a knife he had. Razzak died on the spot. The OC further said that locals took Aminul to a house and detained him and informed the police. When the police reached the spot and rescued Aminul, 500-600 people suddenly surrounded him. They snatched Aminul from the police and beat him to death. Six policemen were also injured during this time," OC Touhidul Islam stated.
The situation is currently under police control. Authorities are preparing to recover both bodies for autopsy and will be filing multiple cases related to the incidents.
