Shariatpur, Apr 05 (V7N) – A fierce clash erupted between two rival factions of the Awami League over territorial dominance in Jajira upazila of Shariatpur, with over 100 hand grenades reportedly exploded during the violence. The incident occurred on Saturday morning in the Durbadanga area of Bilaspur Union, triggering widespread panic among locals.

According to eyewitnesses, the long-standing power struggle between the supporters of Bilaspur Union Chairman Kuddus Bepari and another Awami League leader, Jalil Madbar, reignited into violent conflict.
What began as an argument escalated quickly, with members of both groups allegedly bringing buckets full of hand grenades to the scene.
The grenades were detonated in succession, creating loud explosions and terror throughout the locality.

The sound of continuous grenade blasts caused fear and panic among residents, many of whom fled their homes.
Police arrived on the scene promptly to bring the situation under control.

Dulal Akhand, Officer-in-Charge of Jajira Police Station, confirmed the clash:

“There was a clash between two parties over dominance. Upon receiving the information, police rushed to the spot. The situation is currently under control. Legal proceedings are underway.”

So far, no casualties have been reported, though tension remains high in the area.

Despite repeated attempts, both Kuddus Bepari and Jalil Madbar were unreachable for comment, as their phones remained switched off.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the origin of the grenades or whether any arrests have been made, but a thorough investigation is expected to follow.

The incident has once again raised serious concerns about the use of explosives in political rivalries and the deteriorating law and order situation in local politics.
