Brahmanbaria, Apr 05 (V7N) – After eight consecutive days of Eid-ul-Fitr and weekly holidays, all port activities, including import-export trade, have resumed at the Akhaura land port in Brahmanbaria.
The resumption of trade began on Saturday (April 5) morning, with the export of fish to India, marking a gradual return to normalcy at the port.
Faruk Mia, General Secretary of the Akhaura Land Port Fish Exporters Association, confirmed that commercial activities between Bangladesh and India had been completely halted during the holiday period, spanning from March 28 to April 4. The port had been closed for trade, though passport-holding passengers and customs office operations continued without interruption.
With the reopening of commercial activities, exports to the Indian state of Tripura are underway, restoring vitality to the port. Traders, workers, and drivers have expressed relief as normal operations resumed.
Meanwhile, Immigration In-Charge OC Md. Abdus Sattar and Customs Assistant Revenue Officer Sadrul Hasan Chowdhury assured that immigration and customs activities at the Akhaura International Immigration Checkpost had remained unaffected by the temporary trade suspension.
The reopening of the port signals a positive shift, as trade between Bangladesh and India resumes its normal pace, fostering renewed economic activity in the region.
